M.S. & S.S. Flanges
Flange Manufacturer & Supplier — Darukhana, Mumbai · Since 1999
A flange is only right when three things match: the drilling, the facing and the bore. Get the drilling wrong and it will not bolt up to the valve; get the facing wrong and the gasket will not seal; get the bore wrong and the welder cannot fit it to the pipe. That is the whole job, and it is what we have been doing at Darukhana, Mumbai since 1999. We make every flange type ourselves — weld neck, slip-on and hub, blind, socket weld, male and female, forged, and the lettered Table D / E / F / H flanges — in mild steel to IS:2062 and stainless SS 304 / 304L / 316 / 316L, from 15mm to 600mm NB. Send a specification page, a drawing, or a photograph of the flange already on the line, and you will get back the same thing in the grade and the drilling you asked for.
What We Make, And How The Choice Is Decided
Which flange you need is decided by the joint, not by preference. What the flange is fixed to — butt-welded pipe, a socket, a thread, a nozzle to be closed off — picks the type. What the line carries and what it is bolting up against picks the drilling and the facing. Get those two right and the flange fits first time; get either wrong and it goes back on the lorry.
Everything on this page is machined in our own works at Darukhana, Mumbai. Blanks come in, and flanges go out turned, faced, drilled and marked, which is why a single odd flange to a drawing is as ordinary for us as a set of forty to a table. Send the specification page, a drawing, or a photograph of the flange already on the line and we will tell you what it is before quoting.
The standard grade is mild steel to IS:2062, which covers water, sewage, fire-fighting, compressed air, general works and structural service. Where the line carries something that would attack carbon steel, or where the client insists on stainless, we make the same range in SS 304, 304L, 316 and 316L. Tell us the grade at enquiry stage, because it moves the rate considerably.
The seven flange types we make, and where each belongs
- Weld Neck Flanges — tapered hub butt-welded to the pipe; the pressure-line flange
- Slip-On & Hub Flanges — slips over the pipe end and is fillet welded; quick fit-up
- Blind Flanges — no bore; closes a line, a nozzle or a spare tee
- Socket Weld Flanges — pipe seats in a machined socket; small-bore work to 80mm NB
- Male & Female Flanges — spigot and recess pair, including tongue and groove
- Forged Flanges — blank forged rather than plate-cut, where the specification asks for it
- Table D / E / F / H Flanges — the BS 10 lettered drilling used across Indian works
Why Buy Your Flanges Here
Every Type From One Works
Weld neck, slip-on, hub, blind, socket weld, male & female and forged all come off the same shop floor, so one line does not need three suppliers.
One Order, One Despatch
A mixed set on a single order travels as one consignment on one invoice — less freight, one person to chase, one set of papers at the gate.
Papers That Match The Steel
Ask at order stage and the material test certificate travels with the flanges. Third-party inspection is arranged when your specification names an agency.
Mumbai, India And The Gulf
Collection from Darukhana, transport across the Mumbai belt and PAN India, and export cargo handed over at Nhava Sheva (JNPT) or Mumbai Port.
The Sub-Categories Of Flange We Make
“Flange” is a family, not a part number — there are seven sub-categories below, and each one is made for a different way of joining the pipe. The table sets them side by side so you can see what actually changes between them. Every row links to its own page, where that type is broken down further into its own sub-types and codes.
| Sub-Category | Trade Codes | What Is Different | Usually Specified For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weld Neck | WNRF, WNFF, RTJ / RJ, LWN | Long tapered hub butt-welded to the pipe, so the bore is continuous and there is no step at the joint | Pressure lines, steam, oil & gas, pump and vessel nozzles, anything that will be radiographed |
| Slip-On & Hub | SORF, SOFF, Hub, Flat Plate, Reducing | Slides over the outside of the pipe and is fillet welded inside and out; no bevel preparation needed | Water, sewage, fire-fighting, compressed air, HVAC, fabrication where fit-up speed matters |
| Blind | BLRF, BLFF, RTJ Blind, Tapped, Spectacle | No bore at all — a solid disc drilled to the same pattern as the flange it closes | Line ends, spare tees and nozzles, isolation for hydro-testing, vessel and manhole covers |
| Socket Weld | SWRF, SWFF, Reducing SW, Screwed | Pipe drops into a machined socket and is fillet welded on the outside only | Small-bore work to 80mm NB — instrument tappings, hydraulic and lube oil, sampling points |
| Male & Female | Male (M), Female (F), SMF, LMF, T&G | Matched pair — a spigot machined on one flange seats into a recess machined in the other | Replacements on older plant where the joint already in service is spigot-and-recess |
| Forged | Forged WN, BL, SO, SW, Threaded | Describes the blank, not the shape — forged and normalised stock instead of plate-cut, then machined | Jobs where the specification or the inspector calls for a forged blank with a mill certificate |
| Table D / E / F / H | Table D, E, F, H (BS 10 lettered) | Not a shape but a drilling pattern — the lettered PCD, hole count and thickness used across Indian works | Matching existing Indian plant, water boards, municipal work, pumps and valves already drilled to table |

M.S. Flanges – Frequently Asked Questions
What are M.S. Flanges?
+M.S. (Mild Steel) Flanges are flat disc-shaped pipe fittings manufactured from IS:2062 grade mild steel. They are bolted in pairs — with a gasket between their mating faces — to create a pressure-tight, leak-proof and easily dismantlable connection between pipes, valves, pumps and equipment in industrial piping systems.
What standards are M.S. Flanges manufactured to?
+I.S. Engineering Co. manufactures M.S. Flanges to: IS:1538 Table E (E Table Flanges), IS:6392 (Flat Face Flanges), ANSI B16.5 (Welding Neck, Blind, Slip-On flanges), ANSI B16.11 (Socket Weld), BS 4504 (British Standard) and customer-specific drawings. Material conforms to IS:2062.
What is the size range of M.S. Flanges available?
+I.S. Engineering Co. manufactures M.S. Flanges in sizes from 15mm NB (½ inch) to 600mm NB (24 inch). Custom sizes outside this range are manufactured on request. All standard NB sizes per IS, ANSI and BS specifications are available.
What face types are available in M.S. Flanges?
+M.S. Flanges are available in: Flat Face (FF) — for IS:1538 E Table Flanges and water service; Raised Face (RF) — for ANSI B16.5 flanges in oil & gas; Ring Joint Face (RTJ/RJ) — for very high pressure critical service. The face type must match the mating flange and gasket type.
What is the difference between Flat Face and Raised Face flanges?
+Flat Face (FF) flanges have a completely flat mating surface and require a full-face gasket covering the entire flange face. Used with IS:1538 E Table Flanges in water, sewage and low-medium pressure service. Raised Face (RF) flanges have a small raised annular ring around the bore where the gasket seats. Used with ANSI B16.5 flanges in oil & gas and higher-pressure process piping.
How do I select the correct M.S. Flange type?
+Select based on: (1) Standard — IS:1538 for Indian projects, ANSI B16.5 for international; (2) Flange Type — Blind for termination, Weld Neck for high pressure, Slip-On for low pressure; (3) Pressure Class — PN6/PN10/PN16 for IS, Class 150–2500 for ANSI; (4) Face Type — FF for IS standard, RF for ANSI; (5) Size — match pipe NB.
